Eye Tracking in Gesture Based User Interfaces Usability Testing

In the paper we present a method for usability evaluation of kinetic gesture based user interfaces with application of eye tracking. First we present the problems of the kinetic interaction and the application of eye tracking in usability studies. Then we present our method of the usability verification with applied eye tracking, by performing a sample experiment, then its results and discussion.

Actiontracking in Gesture Based Information Systems

In this paper we present our approach, for tracking and analyzing users’ actions, in user interfaces of gesture based information systems. We present a tool for gathering interaction data, for usability analysis, during tests with users. Interaction with gesture based interfaces differs from interactions with standard devices such as mouse or keyboard. This means it is necessary to deliver special tools for gathering interaction data and methods for usability analysis. We used large LCD screen with MS Kinect device and self-developed software for presenting content and gathering interaction data. We tested web-based application developed according to the MS Kinect user interface guidelines. We verified our experimental setup and method by performing tests with the participation of users.

Application of Network Analysis in Website Usability Verification

This paper describes the application of network analysis in website usability verification. In particular we propose a new automatic usability testing method by means of application of network motifs analysis. In our method motifs are constructed according to the patterns of visited web-pages by particular users, which define the relationships between the pairs of users

Gesture Tracking And Recognition In Touchscreens Usability Testing

In this paper we present a tool for gathering touchscreen data for usability analysis. Touchscreens are becoming the most popular input/output device mainly because of increasing number of smartphones and tablets. As the interaction with touchscreen differs from interaction using standard devices such as mouse or touchpad it is necessary to deliver special tools for data gathering and methods for usability analysis.

Remote Usability Evaluation Using Eye Tracking Enhanced with Intelligent Data Analysis

In this paper we present a new cost-effective method for usability evaluation using eye tracking enhanced with intelligent data analysis. In this method we propose application of a low-cost infrared camera and free Ogama software. Moreover we present how the standard data analysis, which is usually made manually by experts, may be enhanced by application of intelligent data analysis. We applied well known expert system, which is using fuzzy reasoning. To build such a system we should first define a model of “desired” eye tracking record for a given poster, or more general web page or the whole application.

Touchscreen data gathering and analysis applied in usability testing

Touchscreens thanks to the very great popularity of smartphones are becoming the most popular input/output device of modern systems. In this paper a system for gathering a touchscreen interaction data is presented. The main goal of this system is delivering a tool for gathering touch data from MS Windows based systems. We present also two case studies presenting application of the system in the area of usability testing.

Using Eyetracking In Mobile Applications Usability Testing

In this paper we present general problems of a mobile application usability testing by means of eyetracking. The motivation for considering this problem is the fact that eyetracking is still one of the most advanced usability testing tool. We achieved that by performing two eyetracking tests with the participation of users. We tested mobile application on smartphone and PC emulator, to find out which method gives the most valuable results. Both tests showed that eyetracking testing of mobile applications gives valuable results but to make it really efficient professional equipment designed for mobile eyetracking is required.

Remote Usability Testing Using Eyetracking

In the paper we present a low cost method of using eyetracking to perform remote usability tests with users. Remote usability testing enables to test users in their natural environment. Eyetracking is one of the most popular techniques for usability testing in the laboratory environment. We decided to try to use this technique in remote tests. We used standard web camera with freeware software. Our experiment showed that such method is not perfect, but it could be a good addition to the standard remote tests, and a foundation for further development.
